Irish teams are set to take part in the Celtic Cross Country this Sunday, 18th of January. The annual fixture which is being hosted by Ireland this year will feature teams from Scotland, Wales, Ulster and Athletics Ireland. The event is also being run in conjunction with the Leinster Junior and Senior Cross Country Championships in CowPark, Dunboyne.

Peter Lynch (Kilkenny City Harriers AC) spearheads the junior men’s team after his fine victory at the GloHealth U19 Cross Country Championships in December. Ciara Cummins (Nenagh Olympic AC) placed second in the girl’s U19 event will lead the junior women’s team. There will also be U23 teams competing on Sunday, full details of the team can be viewed below.

Ireland will also field juvenile teams at the event in the U17 age category and for many of these young athletes it will represent their debut at international level competition. Ireland has a rich tradition at this event with victories in both the boy’s and girl’s U17 team event in last year’s international.

As part of the development of cross country running Athletics Ireland have also entered development teams in both the juvenile and junior races.

Action gets underway at 12.00 noon with the juvenile relays.
