Irish Women's Triple Jump and Hammer Records Fall

Taneisha Scanlon set a new Irish triple jump record in Bratislava last night when she recorded 13.62m to win the event. This marked a significant 23cm improvement on her previous mark for the U.K. based athlete and augurs well for the upcoming European Cup. In the meantime, Eileen O'Keeffe set a huge new Irish record in the hammer at the Leinster Championships in Tullamore at the weekend with a throw of 67.03m. This marked a three and a half metre improvement for the K.C.H. athlete and more importantly exceeds the Helsinki World Championships B standard of 67.00m. Also in Bratislava, Anna Boyle set a New Northern Ireland 100m Record at the when she clocked 11.58 finishing second. Ailis McSweeney was 3rd in 11.73. Boyle also won the 200 in a wind-assisted 23.73, with Ciara Sheehy clocking 23.97 for 4th in the same race ahead of McSweeney who finished 5th with 24.05. Derval O’Rourke opened her season with a second placed finish in 13.39 (+3.4) and will be in action again on Thursday along with McSweeney at the IAAF Super Grand Prix in Ostrava. David McCarthy won the 400m with a season's best 47.63. Paul Brizzel clocked 10.73 in the 100 and finished 2nd in the 200 with 21.27. JUNIOR TEAM FOR MANNHEIM (Revised) A team of ten athletes will compete in the prestigious Mannheim Junior Meeting on June 17 to 19. This will provide athletes with ideal preparation for the European Juniors scheduled for Kaunas in July.
