Join Sonia at Autumn Open

Sonia O'Sullivan will be joining in the fun of the Autumn Open Cross Country on October 18th and is encouraging runners of all abilities to experience the joys of cross country running.

O'Sullivan is set to run in the Dublin Marathon the following week and will take part in the 5km in the Phoenix Park. "Cross Country is the most natural form of running and I'm looking forward to running around the Magazine Fort with runners of all abilities ahead of the Dublin Marathon," said Sonia who won double gold at the World Cross Country Championships in Marrakech in 1998. "I'm really enjoying my running and I think it will be a good experience for runners to get off the road and enjoy the natural terrain.

"Cross Country is very important in the development of distance runners as they gain strength and fitness naturally over courses that are not specific in measurement or looking for times. I did a lot of my training in parks and trails."

All runners who take part in the 5km race will get a unique replica medal of the gold Sonia won over 5,000m at the World Track and Field Championships in Gothenburg in 1995.
