Joyce, O'Reilly and Ndudi all advance at European U18 Champs

The evening session of the European Athletics U18 Championships continued to be successful for Team Ireland as Oisin Joyce, Max O'Reilly and Elizabeth Ndudi all secured their places into their respective finals and semi-finals. 

After a big 66.71m throw, Oisin Joyce (Lake District AC) secured a top 12 best performance to see him advance to the men’s javelin final on Wednesday at 5:55pm Irish time.

Max O'Reilly (River stick Kinsale AC) secured an automatic place in the men’s 100m after his 4th place finish with 10.85 on the clock. Semi Finals get underway tomorrow at 4pm Irish time, with the finals in quick succession at 6pm.

Continuing the sprinting success, Elizabeth Ndudi (Dundrum South Dublin) secured a 4th place finish in the women’s 100m with a time of 12.00 to book her place in the semi-finals, which begin at 3:45pm Irish time tomorrow, with finals to follow at 6:45pm. 

Representing Ireland in the men’s 1500m were Lughaidh Mallon (Lagan Valley AC) and Diarmuid Fagan (Mullingar Harriers). After a strong performance seeing Mallon within the leading pack throughout the opening lap, he finished in 13th place (4:21.41). Fagan finished his 1500m battle in 8th place with a time 4:04.14. 

Day 2 of the European Athletics U18 Championships gets underway with hurdle action from 6:56am. 

  • Victoria Amiadamen 400mH: 6.56am
  • Fintan Dewhirst 400mH: 7.12am
  • Sean Carmody 400mH: 7.26am
  • Niamh Murray 400m: 7.40am (Semi Final)
  • Liam Shaw Shot Put: 9.00am
