The third and final day of this year’s 123.ie National Juvenile Indoor Championships took place at Athlone on Saturday, April 11th, bringing the competition to a thrilling conclusion. Across all age groups, the event showcased a host of championship records, outstanding individual displays, and highly competitive races – highlighting a bright future for athletics in Ireland.
Relay events provided some of the standout moments of the day. Galway City Harriers A.C. delivered an impressive performance to win the U13 Girls relay in 1:52.49 CR, while Metro/St. Brigid’s A.C. claimed victory in the U13 Boys event in 1:53.50, setting a new championship record.
Clongriffin A.C. were dominant in the U17 Boys relay, clocking 1:32.79 to secure gold and a championship record. Ratoath A.C. enjoyed a particularly successful day, taking gold in the U17 Girls relay (1:41.61, CR) and the U17 Mixed relay (1:37.13, CR), underlining their strength across multiple disciplines.
In the field events, Emer Purtill (Dooneen A.C.) excelled with a double success in the U18 Girls category, winning the shot put with a throw of 15.19m and the high jump with a clearance of 1.66m. Kieran Keane (An Ríocht A.C.) impressed in the U19 Boys shot put, recording 15.57m.
The jumps events also saw exceptional performances. Siofra Moloney (Ferrybank A.C.) won the U15 Girls triple jump with 10.14m, while Milana Sharhayeu (Ratoath A.C.) set a new championship record in the U17 Girls triple jump with 11.46m. In the high jump, Lauryn Healy (Dundrum South Dublin A.C.) cleared 1.60m to win the U19 Girls title, and Jude Glover (Lagan Valley A.C.) took the U18 Boys title with 1.83m.
Middle-distance races produced some of the most exciting moments of the championships. Aisling Kelly (Ennis Track A.C.) delivered a superb run in the U17 Girls 1500m, breaking the championship record with a time of 4:34.43, surpassing the previous mark of 4:36.70 set by Clodagh Gill (Moy Valley A.C.) in 2023. Seamus Burke (Lake District A.C.) won the U18 Boys 1500m in 4:04.20, while Odhrán McBrearty (Finn Valley A.C.) dipped under four minutes in the U19 Boys race, clocking 3:58.47. Clara Casey (Foyle Valley A.C.) secured victory in the U19 Girls 1500m in 4:36.56.
