Mannheim Junior Gala
A group of junior athletes head to Mannheim, Germany for the annual Junior-Gala this weekend (27th-28th of June). Up and coming sprinter Ciara Neville (Emerald AC) lines up in the 100m and 4x100m relay along with Phoebe Murphy (Ferrybank AC) and Gina Akpe Moses amongst others. Joseph Ojewumi (Tallaght AC) and Zak Irwin (Sligo AC) lead a strong squad on the men’s side as they contest the 100m and 200m events respectively. Irish junior 110m hurdles record holder Matthew Behan (Crusaders AC) goes in that event in Germany.
John Kelly (Finn Valley AC) – shot putt and Eoin Sheridan (North Westmeath) – discus contest their specialist events at the Gala. Sarah Lavin (UCD AC) is rounding back into top form after a 13.58 clocking at the European Team Championships in Crete last weekend. That time for Lavin was inside the European U23 qualifying time (13.80) for the 100m hurdles. Lavin goes in that event in Mannheim in search of quicker times.
