Kelly Proper, Ferrybank set a new Irish junior record for the long jump in London today with a leap of 6.19 metres ( +0.9). This was an improvement on her existing Irish record of 6.11 metres. Kelly had had a disappointing performance in the World Juniors in Beijing recording only one valid jump of 5.91 metres in qualification. The final competition of the year for Kelly is the European Junior Club championships on the 16th September where she will lead a strong Ferrybank junior women's team in this prestigious competition. Shercock AC who have participated with distinction in the junior men's event for the past two years will compete again this year as they make the long journey to Moscow. Joanne Cuddihy who made such a major impact in the 400 metres in Gothenburg has declined an offer of representation on the European team for the 4x400 metres relay for the forthcoming World Cup in Athens. After a long season Joanne has decided to take a break from competition. Our congratulations to Joanne on her nomination to the European team.
