Late Paudie Nolan

The death took place on Sunday May 29th last of Mr Paudie Nolan, St John's Park Waterford, aged 93 - one of Waterford's most stylish and talented middle distance runners.

He won the All Ireland NACA 1500m title in successive years, the first in Kilcohan Park Waterford in 1944 in front of 5000 spectators and the second in 1945 in Carnlough,Ballymena on a desperate day with just one other event going ahead - the remainder postponed due to the weather.

He did his running with Cosantoiri AC and was also Army Champion  over 880 yards in 1945. His list of achievements include: Munster 880 yards title in 1944 and mile in 1947, the Waterford County Cross Country title in 1946 and Waterford county track titles over 880 yards in 1945, 46 and 47, the mile in 1945 and 1946 and 440 yards in 1951.

Sympathy is extended to all his family. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
