Lecky soars to world silver

Sommer Lecky (Finn Valley) soared to a sensational silver medal in the high jump with a national U20 record of 1.90m at the IAAF World U20 Athletics Championships in Tampere, Finland today.

Lecky was in sensational form all week and narrowly missed out on clearing 1.92m. Nevertheless, it was a historic day for the Finn Valley athlete. Antoine Burke was the last athlete to win a medal in the high jump at this level in 1994 clearing 2.20m for silver.

Ireland had only ever won two medals at previous world U20 championships and they have now doubled that tally with the women's 4x100m relay silver and Lecky's individual silver.
