Liscarroll Athletic Club in north Cork is running the Fit 4 Life Meet & Train group since January. To date it has been very successful and enjoyable for the organizers and participants. The group meet every Friday night from 8.00 to 9.00pm where 3 different groups i.e. (1) Runners/Joggers, (2) Fast Walkers, (3) Slow Walkers come together to train. Group 1 run 8km and have improved their times greatly. Group 2 have a goal set to jog/walk Cork Ladies Mini-Marathon in September. Each night they walk 2 ½ miles. Next week this distance is going to be extended to 4 miles. They are hoping to get to walking pace of 10/12 minute mile. Group 3 are those who didn't do much walking until they joined fit4life and they walk 2 ½ miles at present and find it much easier now than they did when they started. Many participants have weight lost since they started and look forward to Friday night for the exercise and the chat. Some of the runners have competed in Road races and would not have had the confidence to do this only for the Fit4Life. The Liscarroll fit4life is running ever Friday night throughout the summer and welcomes all walkers, joggers and runners to join in. Liscarroll fit4life is yet another example of how successful the fit4life programme is and how clubs are recruiting new members on a regular basis. If your club would be interested in setting up a fit4life programme please contact your local RDO ASAP.
