Mary Cullen sets a massive new PB of 15:25.8, finishing 12th in the women's 5000m final. Cutting almost 16 seconds off her PB coming in to this championships, Cullen is yet another example of the rising young stars of Irish athletics. There was disappointment for Marie Davenport who after spending the early phase of the race in the leading pack dropped out. Marie had previously competed in the 10000m this week. The race was eventually won by Marta Domínguez from Spain in a time of 14:56.18 breaking Sonia O'Sullivan's record set in Budapest at the 1998 championships. (16:46pm) Irish Women's 4x100 team set a new NR of 44.38 but fail to progress to the final in what was a very competitive semi-final. Team was led off by last nights silver medallist in the 100m hurdles Derval O'Rourke, Joanne Cuddihy took the baton from her and passed it to Ailis McSweeney while Anna Boyle anchored the team home. (16:00pm) Irish Men's 4x400 team qualify for tomorrow nights final in a time of 3:04.59. Team was led off by Paul McKee, followed by Brian Doyle, who passed the baton to David Gillick (semi-finalist in the 400m final) and were anchored home by David McCarthy. (14:53pm)
