Plan comes together for Gregan
Brian Gregan (Clonliffe Harriers) produced a brilliant run to finish third in his 400m heat in 45.37 to qualify automatically for the semi-finals at the IAAF World Championships in London (August 5th).
Running his second fastest-ever time Gregan was enthused with his performance at his third World Championships.
“It played out as exactly as I wanted it to play. I was ranked 6th going in on pbs and finished third so there’s not much more you can ask than that.
“I did my own thing and it paid dividends.
Gregan has credited his return to form to getting his confidence back and enjoying the moment.
“I just got my confidence back. The atmosphere was unbelievable and it makes up for all the bad days. “
The Clonliffe Harrier will compete in the second semi-final in lane 8 tomorrow at 19:48 which includes world record holder Wayde Van Niekerk of South Africa. You can view it HERE.
Mark English (UCD) was disappointed to finish fifth in his 800m heat in 1:48.01 won by Botswana’s Nijel Amos in 1:47.10.
“I've had a nerve issue,” said English afterwards. “Preparation hasn't been perfect but I had to go out there and give it a shot.”
