Long Term Athlete Development Campaign

6 March 2025

In 2025 we are launching our Long-Term Athlete Development campaign. This will cover coaches, athletes, education, awareness and visibility.

As part of Athletics Ireland coach education pathway, Long-Term athlete development is a key stage in attracting new members, supporting existing ones and retain our club athletes.

Currently 50% of our female members are over the age of 45. Clubs should be thinking ahead to how they can work with this group of members and look to support them into the future.

90% of women want to remain active and run but often do not know how to do this. This workshop will provide club coaches with the knowledge and key practical advice for delivering club sessions.

Working with Irene Clark we have developed a series of support structures for clubs. Irene specialises in coaching midlife women and has built up a national reputation for being one the of the foremost experts in the subject. Irene both advises and delivers support for coaches and athletes in the midlife women space.
