Mageean eyes final after impressive heat

Ciara Mageean (City of Lisburn) qualified impressively for the semi-finals of the women’s 1500m on day 6 of the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha this evening (October 2).

Mageean qualified for tomorrow’s (October 3) semi-finals with a fifth place finish in heat 1 in 4:04.18 – the top 6 qualified automatically. Her semi-final is at 9pm Irish time and includes top class opposition in Sifan Hassan (Netherlands), Shelby Houlihan (USA) and Faith Kipyegon (Kenya).

“The plan is to make that final and that’s what I’m aiming to do,” said the City of Lisburn athlete after her hugely impressive heat.

The top five in each semi-final and the two next fastest qualifiers will advance to the final on Saturday (October 5).

Interviews with Ciara are on all social media channels.
