Mageean pb’s in magical 1500m final

Ciara Mageean (City of Lisburn) produced the performance of her career to finish tenth in a red-hot women’s 1500m final a new personal best of 4:00.15 at the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha tonight (October 5).

There was a host of personal bests and national records topped off by Sifan Hassan’s (Netherlands) championship best performance of 3:51.36 to win gold.

Mageean was on Irish record pace for a lot the race (Sonia O’Sullivan’s 3:58.85) as she hung on gamely to a searing hot pace.

“To come 10th in the world, I’m absolutely over the moon,” said Mageean in what was a bona fide world class performance. The depth was truly global and would have put her in contention for the medals at a lot of previous championships.
