Ciara Mageean will take her place in a stacked 1500m Diamond League race in Brussels this evening (Sept 2nd).
It will be Mageean’s first appearance since her superb silver medal winning display at the European Championships in Munich last month.
The Portaferry star will renew rivalry with Scotland’s Laura Muir, with the pair also joined by five other athletes ranked inside the top 10 in the world this year.
Muir, ranked third over 1500m this year, will head a field that also includes this year's world number four in Ethiopian's Diribe Welteji. In all, 8 of the starting field have broken the 4-minute mark this season.
Mageean boasts a season's best of 4:02.56 which was posted in THAT European final in Munich two weeks ago. With race conditions in her favour this evening, her lifetime best of 4.00.15 is sure to be within her sights.
Sonia O'Sullivan's Irish 1500m record of 3:58.85 has stood since 1995.
