Mageean sets new indoor record

UCD's Ciara Mageean smashed the national indoor 1500m record in Karlsruhe when finishing third in 4:08.66. This bettered Sinead Delahunty Evans' time of 4:11.06 set in 2000.

Mageean said: “happy with my first race of 2016. Plenty to learn from this though, next race I’ll be stronger and smarter.” The race was won by Axumawit Embaye in 4:08.22 with Germany’s European junior cross country champion Konstanze Klosterhalfen second in 4:08.38.

At the Armory Track Invitational John Coghlan (Metro St Brigid's) finished 8th over 3,000m 8:15.75, John Travers (Donore Harriers) was 8th in the mile 4:02.47 running three quarters of the race with one spike, Sara Treacy (Dunboyne) 11th over 3,000m in 9:26.88 and Zak Irwin (Sligo) ran 48.15 over 400m.
