Tony Mangan is Ireland's sole representative in the European 24 Hour Championships in Verona, Italy this weekend (23-24 September). In the event, competitors will run around a 400 metre track for 24 hours straight. That's correct, one day! Winners are decided by distance covered. Tony set an Irish record for 24 hours earlier in the year when finishing 16th in the World 24 Hour Road Championsips in Taiwan. His distance of of 228.299km (141.858 miles) easily ranks him in the top 10 contenders for the European title. It is the equivalent of running almost five-and-a-half marathons in a single day.
