1,500m European junior standard for David McCarthy The two day junior international in Mannheim Germany got under way today with several excellent results by Irish athletes. In a blanket finish to the men’s 1,500m just half a second separated the first four athletes, with David McCarthy taking second place in a time of 3:49.52, qualifying him for the European junior championships. Charlotte Ffrench O’Carroll continued her good form with a comfortable win in the women’s 1,500m and her time, 4:26.12, just outside her best. Chris Russell was sixth in his heat of the 100m in 10.95 the qualifying standard for the World Youth Championships. Michael Hynes was just ahead of him in a time of 10.88 and he later won the B final in 10.86.
