MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS RETURN TO MORTON STADIUM

The 123.ie National Masters Track & Field Championships return to Morton Stadium, Santry, this Friday evening (August 7) and Saturday (August 8), with almost 500 athletes set to compete for national honours across an action-packed programme.

The championships once again promise two days of outstanding competition, showcasing the remarkable standard of Masters athletics in Ireland. Athletes ranging from the over-35 age category through to over-80 competitors will contest titles across the full programme of track and field events.

The event comes on the back of another memorable year for Irish Masters athletics, with athletes continuing to impress on both the national and international stage through record-breaking performances and championship success.

Several of Ireland’s leading Masters athletes are entered to compete at Morton Stadium, including record breakers Edel Maguire (Clonliffe Harriers A.C.) and Catriona Devine (Finn Valley A.C.).

Sprint fans can look forward to seeing defending indoor champions David Miller (Strabane A.C.), Snezana Bechtina (Clonliffe Harriers A.C.), Brian Boyce, and John Kirby (St. Senan’s A.C.), while middle-distance racing is set to feature another strong showing from athletes including Kevin Gough, Tom O’Connor, and Mark O’Shea.

Friday Evening

Competition begins on Friday evening, with an exciting opening session featuring hurdles, the 1500m races, race walks, steeplechase events and a full programme of field events including the hammer throw, high jump, triple jump, shot put and weight for distance. Gates open from 4:30pm, with the first events beginning at 6:00pm.

Saturday

Saturday’s programme gets underway at 11:00am and features a packed schedule running throughout the day.

Highlights set to include the sprint finals, 3000m, 5000m, as well as the 4x100m relays and the Mixed 4x400m relay to conclude the championships

The field events run throughout the day and include the discus, long jump, pole vault, javelin and heavy hammer competitions.
