The Irish Life Health National Masters Athletics Championships are back in Morton Stadium this Sunday (September 5th) and fans can look forward to some great action over a packed schedule.
This will be the second time the masters will be live streamed and will feature some of the leading masters athletes.
Masters distance running continues to provide stacked fields with 78 entries in the men’s 5,000m including multiple age group world record holder Tommy Hughes (Strive Running Club) in the M60 category.
24 athletes are set to take their place in the women’s 3,000m where world record breaker Anne Gilshinan (Slaney Olympic) will take her place in the F55 category.
Some other familiar names to look out for include Mary Barrett (Loughrea) in the F60 shot put and Patrick Naughton (Nenagh Olympic) M85 who went global earlier this year when a photo of him training in his living room during the Covid-19 pandemic was announced as the runner-up in the prestigious World Press Photo Contest.
In the 800m, Mark O’Shea (Drogheda & District) M45 and Annette Quaid (Leevale) F40 will feature strongly while Carol Kearney (Lucan Harriers) will be aiming to do well in the F55 400m.
Joe Gough (West Waterford AC) M65 will be looking to add another national title to his growing list of accolades as he too takes to the 800m while also holding an entry for the 400m.
