The Irish Life Health National Masters Track and Field Championships rounded out the summer season in style today at Morton stadium today (September 5th).
The distance events produced some superb performances, including Michael Kiely (Crusaders A.C.) who took the M35 title in 16:02.46, while Vivian Foley (Eagle A.C.) looked all calls in taking the M50 title with a 15:39.42 performance.
Tommy Hughes dominated the M60 5,000m for Strive Racing Club, crossing the line in 17.00.55.
Maria McCambridge was another Olympian to shine in Santry, taking the 3,000 (W45) for Dundrum South Dublin A.C. in an impressive 10:02.04, with Anne Gilshinan W55 (Slaney Olympic A.C.) who produced a record breaking NR display to take another national title to cross in 10:23.26.
Anthony O`Rourke took the M40 800m title home to Brothers Pearse A.C. following his 2:01.67, while Shane Healy looked ultra-impressive in taking the M50 800m title for Metro/St. Brigid's A.C. in 2:05.72.
David Clarke M60 (North Belfast Harriers) and Joe Gough M65 (West Waterford A.C.) were two who also impressed on their way to victory with 2:14.77 and 2:31.12 winning times respectively.
Michelle Cox (Newbridge A.C.) is the W35 800m champion, while Annette Quaid’s blistering 2.10.98 takes the W40 title back to Leevale A.C. Catriona Devine of Finn Valley A.C. is the W45 800 champion, clocking 2:29.23.
Glen Scullion secured yet another 100m title in taking the M40 for Mid Ulster A.C. in 11.79. Scullion would follow up with a silver in the 200m, finishing second to the lightening Anthony Browne of An Riocht A.C. who clocked a winning time of 23.45.
Sinead O`Regan took the women’s W40 title for Riverstick/Kinsale A.C. in 12.97, before also following up with a silver behind Kathryn McDevitt (Letterkenny A.C.) who took gold with a 26.64 performance.
John Menton (Dundrum South Dublin A.C.) secured the M50 discus title, with the Olympian throwing a championship winning throw of 43.60.
Rachel Akers was another of the throwers on fire today, claiming a 44.92 CBP to take the W35 Hammer gold for Ennis Track A.C.
The M35 Long Jump crown goes to Renier Botha of Castlegar A.C. thanks to his best leap of 5.50m, while Erika Juozapaite was back to winning ways in taking the W40 Long Jump title for Blackrock A.C. thanks to her final jump of 4.80m.
