Masters’ stage set for Sunday

The Irish Life Health National Masters Athletics Championships are set for some vintage performances in Morton Stadium this Sunday (September 6th).

This will be the first time the masters will be live streamed and should feature some of the leading athletes.

Distance running proves as popular as ever with 103 entries in the men’s 5,000m including multiple age group world record holder Tommy Hughes (Strive Running Club) in the M60 category.

Similarly, there are 34 entries in the women’s 3,000m which also features world record breaker Anne Gilshinan (Slaney Olympic) in the F55 category.

Some other familiar names to look out for include Mary Barrett (Loughrea) in the F60 shot put and Patrick Naughton (Nenagh Olympic) M85 and Michael Hayes (St Mary’s Clare) M90 in the men’s shot put.

In the 800m, Mark O’Shea (Drogheda & District) M45 and Annette Quaid (Leevale) F40 will feature strongly while Carol Kearney (Lucan Harriers) will be aiming to do well in the F55 400m.

Jer O’Donoghue will be looking to be the fastest sprinter on the day in the M35 100m.
