The national athletics schedule returns to the TUS International Arena in Athlone this weekend (March 8th) for the 123.ie National Masters Indoor Championships.
A host of familiar names including recent world record breakers are set to return to indoor championship action across the busy schedule which gets up and running from 10am on Saturday.
Annette Quaid 045 (Leevale AC) dominated last year’s 400m and will be out to defend her title once again. The Leevale athlete also holds an entry in the 800m.
Expect big performances from Fiona Gettings O40 (Longford AC) across 800m and 1500m, while Rachel Murphy O40 (Pant Based AC) and Snezana Bechtina O40 (Clonliffe Harriers) could see the women’s 400m as one of the events of the weekend if all take their places.
Adina Gheorghiu O50 (DSD) is one to look out for in the sprint events with the defending champion set to go in the 60m and 200m.
There WILL be more of a media interest in the men’s sprints with Virgin Media’s Will Dalton O40 (Kilcoole AC) set to swap the mics for his spikes in the 60m and 200m.
Michelle Cox O40 (Newbridge AC) was part of the recent world record breaking relay performance at the NIA and she will return to the track as an individual on Saturday with entries across the 800m, 1500m, and 3000m.
Mary Jennings O70 (Waterford AC) is sure to go well across the 400m and 800m, with Noreen Bonner O65 (Finn Valley AC) unlikely to go home empty handed with entries in the 800m and 1500m.
Joe Gough O70 (West Waterford AC) will be on the hunt for more national medals in the 400m and 800m, while Michael Counsel (Trim AC) should go will over 800m in the O65.
Annette Kealy O55 (Raheny Shamrock AC) looks the star turn in the 3000m, while John Mac Dermott (Sligo AC) looks set to return to action across multiple events with entries in the e60m, 200m, and 400m.
Olga Nedvede O40 (Dooneen AC) looks one of the leading favourites of the weekend as she looks set to return to the circle for the women’s shot.
