Dunboyne Athletic Club was delighted to welcome the McCabes Pharmacy Fit for Life Roadshow to its grounds on Tuesday, April 28th, in partnership with Athletics Ireland. The event brought energy and enthusiasm to the Dunboyne AC track, offering members a valuable opportunity to engage in a fun and supportive training session.
Dunboyne Athletic Club, founded in 1928, are one of the largest clubs in the country with approx. 800 members. A large club, but one that still retains a small club feel. It’s a club that not only serves the local community; with a reach far beyond the parish boundaries.
The club embraces a huge cohort under the various streams that exist in the club, whether it’s athletics, recreational racing or health and wellness.
The Fit for Life Roadshow aligns perfectly with the club’s inclusive ethos. Designed to encourage walking and running in a structured, social, and enjoyable way, the programme continues to attract participants of all fitness levels.
Nearly 80 participants took part in the roadshow session, making the most of the longer spring evenings. The McCabes Pharmacy team was on hand to provide health checks, wellness advice, and practical guidance, adding an extra layer of value to the experience. The session itself was led by expert coaches and catered to both walkers and joggers, ensuring an engaging and accessible workout for everyone involved.
The Fit for Life Programme will continue with monthly roadshows across Ireland, offering expert-led training and tailored health support. About Dunboyne AC Fit for Life
Dunboyne AC have a large, friendly Fit for Life group, catering for everyone from beginners/walkers through to joggers and runners of all ages. They encourage everyone to train to the best of their ability, whatever that might be. Some members used to run years ago or in school and find Fit for Life a great way to get back into it again in a non-pressured environment.
Expert coaching and friendly encouragement are provided by their amazing team of coaches and each session is started and ended with a thorough warm up and cool-down.
If you are not up to running, feel free to go along to walk and join in with the group. The group also offers some more informal Saturday sessions, for when members feel ready to hit longer runs on the road as well as regularly meeting up at local Park Run events.
Many Fit for Lifers take part in 5K, 10K, 10 miles, Half-Marathon and full Marathon distances, others have participated at Cross-Country and Track and Field meets representing the club and winning championship medals, but there is no pressure on anyone to do so.
