There will be another big weekend of racing on the track while Maria McCambridge (DSD) will have one last attempt to secure Olympic qualification at the Riga marathon.

Some of Ireland’s best sprinters will be on show at the Ton Le Gaoithe meeting at the RSC track in Waterford tomorrow (May 14th).

Ireland’s only wind sprint meeting is set for its second edition with a host of top women competing.

Bandon AC sisters Phil and Joan Healy will compete in the women’s 100m as will Newport’s Sharlene Mawdsley. Phil Healy will take on Mawdsley over 200m also. DSD’s Anita White will headline in the women’s javelin while there should be an intriguing battle in the women’s 100m hurdles with Sarah Lavin (UCD) taking on Ciara Neville (Emerald) and Molly Scott (SLOT). 

In the men’s races Christopher Sibanda (Clonliffe Harriers) and Craig Lynch (Shercock) will go head-to-head in the 100m and 200m. One lap specialist Timmy Crowe (Clonliffe Harriers) will look to get in the mix in the 200m.

Carrick on Shannon’s Gerard O’Donnell will be the favourite in the men’s 110m hurdles with up-and-coming Matthew Behan (Crusaders) looking to come close.

There will be a plethora of middle distance runners at the British Milers Club meeting in Manchester with Rose-Anne Galligan (Newbridge) and Ciara Everard (UCD) two of the leading Irish entries – they will be competing over 800m. Olympic bound Sara Treacy (Dunboyne) is in the women’s 2,000m steeplechase along with Annmarie McGlynn (Letterkenny).

Day 2 of the GloHealth Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships take place in Morton Stadium with a number of exciting races in store. The intermediate girls’ 3,000m sees Amy Rose Farrell (Mount Anville) take on Abbie Taylor (St Gerard’s) and Jodie McCann (Institute of Education).

Kevin McGrath (St Pat’s, Navan) will be in the senior boys’ 1500m with Jack O’Leary (Clongowes) in the 5,000m. Rose Finnegan (Eureka Kells) will be in the senior girls’ 800m while David McDonald (CBS Wexford) and Grace Lawler (Carlow VS) will feature in the senior 200m races.

The Terenure 5 mile is hosted  by Sportsworld on Sunday with leading entries including Mick Clohisey (Raheny Shamrock), Sergiu Ciobanu (Clonliffe Harriers), Brandon Hargreaves (DSD) and David McCarthy (West Waterford)

Maria McCambridge (DSD) competes in the Riga Marathon in a last bid to garner Olympic selection on May 15th.
