McCarthy runs world standard; Cross country's new home and the week ahead
Claire McCarthy (Leevale) was the highlight performance over the weekend (September 24/25) with a personal best of 2:38:00, and world championship qualifying time, in Berlin.
McCarthy's form has been on the rise since running in the half marathon in the European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam last summer. Her time equalled exactly the Athletics Ireland qualifying time for London next summer. You can view the world championship standards HERE. Gladys Ganiel (North Belfast Harriers) also had a good performance running 2:39:10.
Autumn Open to unveil National Cross Country Course in Sports Campus
The Autumn Open Cross Country on October 16th promises to be an exciting occasion with the unveiling of the new permanent cross country course at the National Sports Campus in Abbotstown.
The race will see Ireland's best cross country runners, both young and old, take to the surface which will also be the host of the National Cross Country Championships on November 27th. Runners of all abilities are encourage to ENTER in what will be an inclusive day from the head of the field right the way back.
