Fionnuala a fighting fifth in Spain
Fionnuala McCormack (Kilcoole) finished an excellent fifth in a world class field at the Cross Internacional de Atapuerca in Burgos, Spain today (November 13).
The Wicklow woman is stepping up her preparations ahead of the National Cross Country Championships in Abbotstown later this month and European Cross Country Championships in Chia, Italy in December. The race was won by Senbere Teferi of Ethiopia in 24:45 with McCormack 48 seconds behind with a further three Africans ahead of her. There were a number of good performances on the collegiate scene in the United States. Sarah Collins (Finn Valley) helped Providence women to victory with a fourth place finish in the North East Region with Hugh Armstrong’s (Ballina) 13th placing helping Providence men to a fourth place finish.
Sean Tobin (Clonmel) helping Ole Mississippi to win the team title in the South Region Championships finishing 10th. Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (DSD) finished 7th at Mid-Atlantic Regional helping Villanova to second. All four teams now advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championships next week.
The Irish Masters excelled at the British and Irish Masters Cross Country International in Glasgow with Micheal Harty (East Cork) M35, JJ Murphy M60 and Carmel Parnell (Leevale) W60 having her 11th win.
