McCormack posts pb in NYC
Fionnuala McCormack had an excellent fourth place finish at the New York Half Marathon in a new personal best of 70:44.
McCormack (Kilcoole) was pleased overall with her race in what was a hilly course with an average pace of 5:24 per mile . “I’m happy, as I ran a PB,” said McCormack afterwards. “It was a race of two halves, and I managed to run better in the second half and caught a few people to get into fourth place. I struggled near the Park a bit, so it was nice to come back after that.
“It was hilly, up-and-down, but the type of course that would suit me. I think it felt like it went from a marathon pace to a 10K pace during the race. It changed pretty quickly, and that didn’t help me, but I was just able to run my own race and with the people who were around me.”
USA's Molly Huddle won the race in 67:41 in a thrilling sprint finish with Kenya's Joyce Chepkirui who was given the same time. McCormack outkicked Boston marathon winner Caroline Rotich of Kenya in an equally exciting finish by one second.
