Morland's gold rush

Elizabeth Morland made it a hat-trick of gold medals at the GloHealth Juvenile Indoor Championships in Athlone today.

The multi-event star won the U19 long jump on Saturday with 5.85m and followed up on Sunday with gold in the high jump (1.74m) and gold in the 60m hurdles in 8.44 seconds.

A host of athletes came away with a hatful of medals. Molly Scott (St Laurence O'Toole) continued her record-breaking form with U18 60m hurdles gold in 8.33 seconds. This was a second national youth record to add to her 60m 7.42 clocking yesterday.

Other sprinters to impress included Aaron Sexton (North Down) who sped to 21.97 in the U17 boys 200m - again another championship best to add to his 60m of 7.07. David McDonald (Menapians) continues to shine this season and he clocked 21.77 for a championship best performance in the U18s. Lauren Cadden (Sligo) won the U17 girls 200m in 24.88 - a European Youth Games qualifying time.

There was a series of great races in the middle distance races but pride of place goes to Mark Milner's exceptional 1:55.03 clocking in the U17 boys 800m. The tall long striding Tullamore Harrier oozed class to set a new championship best.

In the high jump Ryan Carthy Walsh (Adamstown) soared the highest with 2.06m in the U18 boys high jump.

In the U15 boys pole vault Adam O'Dwyer (Moycarkey Coolcroo) vaulted to a championship best of 2.70m.

In an exciting weekend of action there was too many stars too mention with plenty of thrills and spills throughout.
