Update With three races of the Leinster league already held, Barry Minnock (Rathfarnham) already has three wins to his credit. The first race of the series was on Bray Head and Barry led home 226 finishers. Mountain-biker Jenny McCauley (Sli Cualann) was first woman. A week later in Howth, Barry led home 179 runners and Aoife Joyce (Crusaders) was first woman. This week on the Hellfire, there were 208 finishers with Barry and Mags Greenan (Clonliffe) the individual winners. In between, there was the Irish versus Northern Irish mountain running associations challenge in the Cooley mountains north of Dundalk. IMRA had a narrow win with Neil Carty (NIMRA) and Aisling Coppinger (IMRA and Clonliffe) the individual winners. The trail for this year’s European championships is in Wicklow on 21st June. Contact Gerry.Brady@imra.ie for information. Signs are that some of our top cross-country runners will be making their debut on what is a very flat and fast course. The European masters will be held a week later on June 28th in Switzerland where Mags Greenan and Martin McDonald (North Laois) will be heading the Irish challenge.
