Championships On Sunday 11th May in Doon, County Limerick, the second of the Munster Championship mountain-running series took place. In ideal weather conditions, over sixty runners and walkers took on the 12 kilometre course over trails and fields at whatever pace suited them. Local farmer, Paddy Lonergan, along with two other landowners plus family and friends made the event a wonderful success. In his words, “everyone rowed in” to make the day both safe and enjoyable. Additionally, €360 was collected for Sister Sheila in Doon to contribute to Trocaire’s work. Along with numerous spot prizes, Kerryman Eoin McKenna picked up first prize, with Corkman Donal Coffey and Mike Cunningham from County Limerick coming in second and third in the men’s race. Mary Louis Ryan (Bilboa AC), Maria Carey (Ennis Track) and Mo Foley (Bilboa AC) were the top three women in the women’s senior race. The next event is in County Waterford in the Comeraghs – each of the six races in the series is in a different county in Munster. The terrain is considered difficult and is over ten kilometres. The race is on Sunday 18th May at 1pm and Tim Foley, course organiser can be contacted for more information on 087 9040141.
