Cliodhna Manning (Kilkenny City Harriers A.C.) has been forced to withdraw from the Women’s 4x400m Relay team ahead of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Manning sustained an injury at the recent 123.ie National Senior Track and Field Championships and has not recovered sufficiently to take her place on the start-line.

Niamh Murray (Bray Runners) will replace Manning in the relay squad.

The 17-year-old qualified for the semi-final of the Women’s 400m at the European U20 Championships in Jerusalem, running an impressive new personal best of 54.75 on Monday morning.

Murray was also a member of the relay squad at the European Indoor Championships earlier this year.

24 Irish athletes will take to competition alongside over 2,000 athletes from 200 countries at the brand new 35,000 capacity National Athletics Stadium in the Hungarian capital.

The squad is the largest that Ireland have ever selected for the World Athletics Championships.
