The national 10,000m races for men and women are set to take place as the finale to the first day of competition at the AAI Games meeting on the 23rd of July.

This will allow athletes compete in both the 5,000m and 10,000m championships, while providing a better racing experience for those taking to the start line.

National Endurance Coordinator, Matt Lockett said: “I am delighted that Athletics Ireland has been able to arrange a long overdue National 10,000m for female athletes. Holding both the men’s and women’s races separately from the other national track and field events enables athletes to run both the 5,000m and 10,000m which should produce strong fields and a better racing experience for athletes. It also allows athletes who have run early season 10,000m races on the track a chance to rebuild and target a strong performance in the national championships”.

Further details relating to the AAI Games on July 23rd will be announced in the coming weeks.

A host of athletes likely to be contending for those national 10,000m titles on July 23rd will be in action this weekend at the 10,000m Cup in Pacé, France (May 28th).
