National 10k set for Great Run in the Park
The National 10k Championships take place once more as part of the Garmin Great Ireland Run in the Phoenix Park this Sunday (April 15).
Chesterfield Avenue will be full of colour with club vests lining up for the National 10k Championships which also will see an Irish select team.
Shona Heaslip (An Riocht), Kerry O’Flaherty (Newcastle), Laura Shaughnessy (DSD) and Bethanie Murray (DSD) will take on England’s Gemma Steel, Jenna Hill and Naomi Taschimowitz. Steel should provide a good test for the Irish women as a former European Cross Country champion and winner of the event.
The Irish women will, of course, also be battling for national gold. Shaughnessy and Murray should be part of a strong DSD women’s team.
Mick Clohisey (Raheny Shamrock), Brian Maher (Kilkenny City Harriers) and Sergiu Ciobanu (Clonliffe Harriers) are the Irish select that will take on Ian Kimpton, Jack Gray and Ollie Lockley. That should mean a good opportunity for an Irish winner first across the line and someone in the main entry could also spring a surprise and win the event.
Daire Bermingham and Kevin Moriarty should be part of a strong Raheny Shamrock team alongside Mick Clohisey for the national team gold.
Gladys Ganiel (North Belfast Harriers) F40, Niamh O’Sullivan (An Riocht) F55 and Eddie Newman (Mullingar Harriers) M55 are among the age group contenders for which should be a wonderful day in the park.
