Ireland's best juniors and Under 23's will be in action in Cork on Sunday. With places available for the upcoming European Championships it will be an important weekend for those seeking selection. Thirteen athletes have already qualified for both the European Juniors and European 23's. David Gillick will probably move down to 200 metres after his 400 in Mardyke on Saturday. The prospect of a Paul Hession and David Gillick clash over 200 is an interesting one. The 800 metres should be an absorbing race as Danny Darcy and Colin Costello clash . Darcy ran 3:44.11 for 1500 last weekend and Costello returns from altitude training. Costello ran 1:49.37 last year and will be seeking to rediscover that kind of form. David McCarthy from West Waterford is another very talented young athlete. Could we be watching the emergence of a new breed of young Irish Middle Distance Runners? Ailis McSweeney, Anna Boyle and Joanne Cuddihy will be among the women sprinters in action. Azmera Gebrezgi, Roseanne Galligan and Linda Byrne all have standards and will probably choose to run either 800 or 1500 metres.
