It was an evening of high-spirited athletics action on Day 3 of the European Athletics U18 Championships in Jerusalem, with a record-breaking performance, new PB’s and fast times achieved by the athletes in the Irish singlet.

Oisin Joyce (Lake District AC) had a stellar performance in the final of the men’s javelin, reaching a distance of 69.66m in his final throw of the competition to set a new Irish U18 record, taking the title off fellow clubmate Conor Cusack.

Ava Rochford of Nenagh Olympic reached an incredible 1.79m in the women's high jump, coming fourth in the final. The sixteen-year-old enjoyed a round of superb jumping, clearing each round comfortably.

Niamh Murray (Bray Runners AC) continued her incredible string of 400m performances in the women’s final with a passionate display in the final 100m. The Wicklow woman came 8th in the final with a time of 55.06, her second fastest time this year. The Championships have seen Murray reach a European final and secure two of her fastest times in the 400m to date.

Finn O’Neill (Lifford Strabane AC) continued his decathlon action in the High Jump reaching 1.72m to add another 560 points to his tally. O’Neill has had to end his participation in the competition after four events due to a slight injury. O’Neill enjoyed strong performances and no doubt we can expect more to come from the talented multi event athlete.

The final day of the European U18 Championships gets underway tomorrow from 5:00am.

  • Andrew Glennon (Mullingar Harriers) 10,000m Walk 5:00am
  • Sam O’Sullivan (Clonmel AC) 10,000m Walk 5:00am
