Neville blazes to glory and national records

Ciara Neville (Emerald) highlighted an absorbing Irish Life Health National Junior and U23 Indoor championships with a scintillating 7.30 seconds in the junior women’s 60m.

Neville’s 7.30 run equalled the national senior record, was an outright junior record as well as a European Indoor qualifying standard.

Jordan Hoang (Tullamore Harriers) was another in record-breaking form with 14.90m in the junior men’s triple jump while Michaela Walsh (Swinford) had a championships best performance in the junior women’s shot put with 14.95m.

Sharlene Mawdsley (Newport) was another to impress with 23.95 seconds in the junior women’s 200m – three hundredths of a second outside the national junior record.

Ellen McCartney (City of Lisburn) was another good performer in the junior women’s pole vault with a clearance of 3.45m.

Race of the day was the U23 men's 400m where Brandon Arrey (Blarney/Inniscarra) got the nod over Zak Irwin (Sligo) in 48.75 to 48.77 with both men collapsing over the line in a sea of lactic acid.
