A superb new course record of 2hrs 11mins and 39s by Alexsey Sokolov, Russia highlighted the adidas Dublin Marathon held today in perfect weather conditions. In second place in 2.13.11 was Olexsandr Kuzin, Ukraine followed by Edwin Komen, Kenya in 2.13.26 The women's race was another Russian triumph with Alina Ivanova well clear in 2.29.49 from Scotland's Hayley Haining in 2.31.51 and another Russian Larisa Zyusko in 2.33.09. The AAI National Marathon Championships, held in conjunction with the adidas Dublin Marathon, saw Cian McLoughlin, Clonliffe finish well clear in 2.22.37. For most of the race Cian was heading for a time of well under 2hrs 20 mins but faltered over the last few miles due to a stitch. Paul McNamara, Athenry ( recently appointed AAI Development Officer for Connaught ) ran a steady race to finish 2nd in 2.25.44 with the evergreen Pauric McKinney, Letterkenny 3rd in 2.28.51. The women's race saw Jill Shannon, Lagan Valley capture the title virtually on the line from a devastated runner-up Pauline Curley, Tullamore in 2.42.46 to 2.42.48 for Pauline. There was an excellent performance in 3rd place from Tallaght's Lisa Daane in a breakthrough time of 2.45.38.
