Double U20 European 100/200m champion, Rhasidat Adekele, has smashed the Irish 200m record with a 22.59 second performance while representing Texas University at the Texas A&M vs Texas Dual Meet late last night (April 2nd).

The performance, which would ultimately see Adeleke finish in second place, also secured the World and European Championships qualification standards.

  • 1 Laila OWENS Texas A&M [SO]  22.57 +2.0 PB
  • 2 Rhasidat ADELEKE Texas [SO]   22.59 +2.0 PB
  • 3 Julien ALFRED Texas [SO] 23.10

It continues a remarkable start to 2022 for the 19-year-old, who has already broken the Irish 60m (7.17PB) and 200m (22.85a) indoor records in recent months.

The Tallaght AC star also boasts a 36.87 for 300m indoors (January 16th 2022) , which was the fastest time ever by an Irishwoman over the distance indoors, and also the fastest-ever by a European teenager.
