As the build up for the European Indoor championships in Birmingham on the first weekend of March continues, David Gillick scorched the track in Dusseldorf for a brilliant victory. His winning time of 45.91 is
  • a world leader over the distance,
  • a new Irish indoor record - bettering Paul McKee's 2003 45.99 record
  • a smashing new PB for him indoors
  • And his time puts him within striking distance of Paul McKee's outdoor Irish record of 45.58 set in 2002. Brilliant running David!

What an indoor season this is turning out to be, with a string of PB's and new records by Irish athletes on the international stage, added to the list of top class performances set by athletes at the Nenagh stadium over the past month. Meanwhile the European Athletics Association wises to remind everyone that voting for the inaugural Athlete of the Month closes on Friday. Mary Cullen (Sligo), European leader over 3,000m and 1 mile, has been nominated on foot of some super performances, and your vote would not go astray. Click on logo.
