Rhasidat Adeleke (Tallaght AC) has broken her own Irish 400m record with another breath-taking performance at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Florida this evening (April 15th).

Coming hot on the heels of breaking the 200m record yesterday, the Tallaght AC star produced a scintillating 49.90 to break her own Irish 400m which she had posted indoors back in February (50.33).

Adeleke becomes the first Irishwoman to go below 50 seconds for 400m, finishing second behind US indoor record holder Britton Wilson (49.51).

Tonight’s world class performance takes 0.43 off Adeleke’s previous best and adds another huge milestone to what has already been a remarkable weekend for the 20-year-old.

This latest record-breaking performance comes on the back of a superb indoor season for the 20-year-old which has seen her claim a silver medal in the 400m final at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championships back in March.
