I live in Coleraine, Co Derry and I have run 311 marathons raising over €400,000 for charity which is an Irish Record. From 5th May to 10th May 08, myself and Roger Biggs (Chairman of 100 Marathon Club) plus 4 other runners ran 6 marathons in 6 consecutive days in the 6 different counties of N Ireland. This was a first for N Ireland. Other runners joined us at different 'legs' over the 6 marathons. See more info at: www.run666.org The Marathons were Belfast (Antrim) on 5th May; Downpatrick (Co Down) on 6th May; Armagh City (Co Armagh) on 7th May; Enniskillen (Co Fermanagh) on 8th May; Omagh (Co Tyrone) on 9th May and Limavady (Co Derry) on 10th May. Over €25,000-00 was raised for The Alzhiemers Society and Macmillan Cancer Support. We plan to run a similar event next year in the Rep Of Ireland, ie run 26 marathons in the 26 counties of Southern Ireland in 26 consecutive days starting on Thursday 7th May 2009 and finishing with the Cork City Marathon on 1st June 2009. To kick start the event we will run the Belfast Marathon on Monday 4th May 2009. Roger Biggs (who lives outside London), myself and Gerry Forde (Wheelchair Marathon Competitor) who lives in Blarney, Co Cork with 5 other 'die hard runners' will run these 26 marathons. Gerry has completed 135 marathons in a wheelchair which is very credible as he is disabled. Gerry, Roger and myself just completed the Cork City Marathon on 2nd June. Out target is to raise €1 million plus for ROI charities. I invite any charity to come on board and be associated with this 26 marathon event which has never been held in the ROI. Therefore we need input / help from all running clubs in the 26 counties of ROI to organise these 26.2 mile routes with the exception of Cork which is already set up. These courses will have to be adequate and safe for Gerry Forde to use. We will need organisation and help from charities to start fundraising for this mammoth task. We can run marathons in areas where charity committees / HQ's are located etc. On each of the 26 days, permits will have to be organised for street / road collections. Most of all we are looking for potential sponsors to kick start 'The ROI 26 Marathon Challenge'. Can anyone help us to help others. Contact Roger or myself at:- Peter Ferris at run4peter@hotmail.com or Roger Biggs at roger@thebiggs.net Individuals runners can take part in any of the 26 marathons. Yours in Running for Charity Peter Ferris MBE 2 Gortgranagh Drive Coleraine N Ireland BT51 3NQ Tel 048 70320228 from ROI / 028 70320228 from NI / UK
