This will provide athletes with the opportunity to compete over the 3000m distance with official height barriers. The event will be held during the Leinster U13 - U19 Championships and is timetabled for late afternoon. It is impossible to give an exact time / possibly between 3-00pm & 4-00pm. Anyone interested should contact Leinster secretary Noreen O’Reilly at 087-2330403 or noreenoreilly@gmail.com Olympic bound Colin Griffin (Ballinamore AC) confirmed his preperations for this summer's Games in Beijing are right on target with an stunning victory in the National 20km Walk Championships which were held in Leamington Spa on Sunday The 26-year old Leitrim man, who will compete in the 50km in China, not only had the satisfaction of beating his Olympic bound rival Jamie Costin (West Waterford) but he also dipped under the Olympic B standard with a winning performance of 1.24.22. Costin, who also set a seasons best finished 15 seconds further back with Carlow's David Kidd taking bronze in a shade over 90 minutes. In the Junior races,Laura Reynolds and Paul Fitzpatrick both dipped under the qualifying standards for the World Junior Championships which will take place in Poland in July. The event, which was held for the first time ever outside of Ireland, was the result of an initiative by Athletics Ireland to provide a higher quality of competition and was hailed a major success by the athletes.
