Ciaran McDonagh Leaps to New National Long Jump Record in Switzerland

Ciaran McDonagh (Fr. Murphy's AC) jumped his way into the Irish athletics history books once again in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland on Sunday with a new National Record of 8.07m. Extending the previous mark of 8.00m which he himself set en route to the World Championship Final in 1999, the Meathman took victory in the competition and claimed the significant scalp of South African Godfrey Mokoena who recently finished 7th at the World Championships in Helsinki and sits at number 4 in the world on the yearly rankings. McDonagh's 8.07m would have been good enough for 8th in the final of those World Championships and easily qualifies him for next year's European Championships. Paul McKee continued his progress with a season's best of 46.63 for 2nd in the 400m, defeating Olympic finalist Leslie Djone of France in the process. Rob Daly was just a fraction behind in 4th place with a time of 46.69 seconds.
