Darragh McElhinney sets National U23 5,000m Record

Darragh McElhinney (UCD AC) has broken the 44 year old National U23 5,000m Record to 13:17.17 while competing at the IFAM Outdoor in Belgium coming fifth in the overall race. 

The Cork native takes the record from John Treacy who had the record set at 13:26.5 also while competing in Brussels, Belgium in 1978 and joins the Irish All Time list in seventh position. 

The European Silver Medallist has had a strong opening outdoor season setting a new personal best in the 1500m, 3:39.79, in recent weeks while competing in Germany.
