O'CONNOR BREAKS IRISH INDOOR HEPTATHLON RECORD IN CHICAGO

Diarmuid O'Connor - Heptathlon

Diarmuid O’Connor (Bandon AC) broke the Irish indoor heptathlon record last weekend at the Big East Conference Championships in Chicago.

O’Connor scored 5594 points across the seven events, to better the previous record which had been held by Joe Naughton since 2002.

O’Connor’s individual results can be seen below:

  • 60m – 7.07 PB
  • Long Jump – 6.90m
  • Shot Put – 13.94m
  • High Jump – 1.89m
  • 60m Hurdles – 8.39
  • Pole Vault – 4.45m iPB
  • 1000m – 2:39.01 PB

Elsewhere, at the ACC Indoor Championships in Kentucky, Lucy-May Sleeman (Leevale AC) clocked a time of 7.27 seconds to move to joint-third on the Irish indoor all-time list.

The 20-year-old now sits alongside Amy Foster and behind only Rhasidat Adeleke and Molly Scott on the all-time list.
