Offaly Sports Partnership and Athletics Offaly have teamed up to promote diversity in sport as part of the National Action Plan Against Racism (NPAR). A quick glance at the results of any athletics event in Ireland, from local road race to national track & field championships, illustrates the contribution that migrant communities residing in Ireland have made to the sport of athletics in recent years. To acknowledge this contribution and to celebrate diversity in our sport Offaly Sports Partnership and Athletics Offaly cordially invite athletes from the new communities residing in Ireland to compete in the 2008 Athletics Offaly Senior, Masters and Junior Track & Field Championship to be held in Tullamore Harriers Stadium on Thursday July 10th starting at 7pm. The National Action Plan Against Racism was launched by the Government in January 2005 and reaffirms the Government’s commitment that racism has no place in Irish society. A central part of the National Action Plan Against Racism is to provide funding for organisations and initiatives that raise awareness about racism and promote cultural diversity. If you are a migrant residing in Ireland, or are of a migrant background, and are interested in competing at this event, or if there are athletes in your club or community who would be interested in competing in this event, please contact paul@athleticsireland.ie to secure an invitation. Offaly Sports Partnership will facilitate payment of travel expenses to invited athletes. To learn more about the National Action Plan Against Racism please visit www.diversityIreland.ie.
