Mairead Murphy became the sixth Ferrybank athlete to qualify for the European junior championships when she finished fifth in the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.14 at a meet in Oordegem Belgium last night. Another Ferrybank athlete, Niall Tuohy won his 800m in a new PB of 1:51.58 and must be considered unlucky not to have been in a more competitive race in his attempt at the junior standard. And continuing the Waterford story David McCarthy from West Waterford set a new PB in the 1,500m as he prepares for Euro juniors. The 'other' David McCarthy was also in great as he lowered his best in the 800m to 1:47.71. Another junior, Craig Murphy, lowered his PB by almost nine seconds in the 3,000m.
