Keane and Patterson make World U20 semi-finals

The Irish team had a good first day at the IAAF World U20 Athletics Championships with Jo Keane (Ennis Track) and Davicia Patterson (Beechmount Harriers) making respective semi-finals in Tampere, Finland today (July 10).

Jo Keane was the first athlete on track and she achieved her goal of making the semi-final of the 800m with a 7th place finish in 2:09.59. This was enough to advance as a fastest qualifier.

It was then on to the 400m heats and Davicia Patterson was first up in heat 1 and she produced a brilliant performance from lane 8 finishing second in 53.20 to advance automatically.

In heat 2 Ciara Deely (Kilkenny City Harriers) finished 6th in 54.69 and just missed out to make it the full complement of athletes qualifying to the next stage.
